Pro. Yongshun CHEN and Pro. Jason Phipps MORGAN from Southern University of Science and Technology Visited KLCG
By Yuhong Deng
On November 22th, 2019, Key Laboratory of Computational Geodynamics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (KLCG) welcomed professor Yongshun Chen and professor Jason Phipps Morgan from Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) to deliver invited talks for sharing their recent advantages in their research group. Professor Yaolin Shi, director of the Academic Committee of KLCG, and professor Huai Zhang, current director of KLCG, attended this symposium.
At the first session, Professor Chen presented a brief introduction of SUSTech and shared his recent research about the city-zone seismic dense array, wide-band ORS, and EarthScope–Oceans program.
In the second session, professor Jason Phipps Morgan discussed two-phase lithospheric growth at oceanic transform plate boundaries and the origin of the transformed oceanic valley. He believed that updated observational data and elaborately designed models could address these open questions in those earth science frontiers.

Department of Ocean Science and Engineering of SUSTech has been founded in July 2015, focusing on physical oceanography, microbial oceanography, marine geomicrobiology, marine geophysics, and ocean engineering. Professor Yongshun Chen, founder and dean of the Department of Ocean Science and Engineering, is one of the members of academic committee of KLCG, greatly contributing to the establishment and development of KLCG as well.
Definitely, these scientific exchanges will build a closer relationship between KLCG and the Department of Ocean Science and Engineering of SUSTech. Meanwhile, students from KLCG had an excellent opportunity to learn new research information from those outstanding professors.
