The International Workshop on Computational Geodynamics Frontiers 2013, hosted by the Key Laboratory of Computational Geodynamics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (LCG-CAS), was held during June 29-30. The two-day international workshop, chaired by Prof. Shi Yaolin, the LCG-CAS Academic Committee director and CAS member, was attended by over 109 professors and postgraduates from Chinese and overseas research institutes, delivered the latest development in a broad scope of earth science. The current LCG-CAS director, Dr. Mian Liu, introduced the preparation, agenda, logistics and schedule of the workshop at the opening address. The meeting was divided into eight sessions, which were convened by Dr. Liu Mian, Dr. Gao Rui, Dr. Shi Yaolin, Dr. Yves M. Leroy, Dr. Yves Gueguen, Dr. Dong Shuwen, Dr. He Jiankun and Dr. Zhang Huai, respectively. During these sessions, there were totally 39 speakers from both domestic and international institutions launched heated Q&A discussions. As an annual academic event initiated in 2004, the workshop of this year had celebrated its 10th anniversary. Since the year of 2010, when the LCG became a key lab of the CAS, this international workshop has met a dramatically growth in scale, with the aim of providing a platform for both domestic and overseas experts to share their thoughts on the cutting-edge and latest development in the fields of earth science, and to facilitate young scholars to exchange ideas with and learn from accomplished scholars. Representatives from domestic and overseas universities and research institutes presented at this workshop, which include Yale University, University of Alaska, University of Oklahoma, University of California, Santa Cruz, Georgia Institute of Technology, École normale supérieure-Paris, Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich(ETH), Pohang University of Science and Technology in Republic of Korea, Peking University, University of Science and Technology of China, Tibet University, Ningbo University, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, Geological Museum of China, University of Chinese Academy of Science, and other relevant institutes from the CAS and China Earthquake Administration.
