International Workshop on the Frontiers of Computational Geodynamics and the IPACES annual meeting 2014, Beijing Dear Colleagues, On behalf of the organizing committee, we cordially invite you to attend the International Workshop on the Frontiers of Computational Geodynamics 2014” (IWFCG'2014), to be held during June 30 - July 2, 2014 in Beijing, China. This is a joint event with the annual meeting of the International Professionals for the Advancement of Chinese Earth Sciences (IPACES, http:// http://eos.ou.edu/IPACES/). Sponsored and hosted by the Key Laboratory of Computational Geodynamics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (LCG-CAS), the IWFCG annual workshop series has been successively held since 2004, attracting leading scientists from China, North America, Europe, Australia, and Asian countries. The IPACES is a nonprofit organization of overseas Chinese earth scientists, whose mission is to promote research and education of earth sciences in China and to facilitate international exchange. Started in 1999, IPACES annual meeting has become an important forum in China for international exchange of geoscience research. The theme of this year’s workshop is new advances in computational geodynamic studies. In the past decades, high-performance computing has found broad applications in many fields of earth sciences, from large-scale mantle dynamics to molecular-scale mineral physics. It has also become a critical integrator for the massive data that grows exponentially in recent years. This joint workshop aims to foster interdisciplinary studies. We welcome all studies of applications of computational methods in geosciences; we particularly encourage studies that integrate observational data with modern computational methods to advance our understanding of the structure and process of multi-spatiotemporal scale deformation in the crust and mantle. Topics on other aspects of geodynamic computation are also welcome. For further information, please email Prof. Huai Zhang (hzhang@ucas.ac.cn). To participate, please email title of your talk/poster by 15 April, 2014 to Prof. Zhang. We plan to collect the presentations at the workshop for a special volume to be published by a peer-reviewed international journal. We look forward to seeing you in Beijing.
